Bolt Offered Mariners Contract

Former Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt has been offered a professional football contract by Australian A-League side Central Coast Mariners, with the 32-year-old having impressed during his recent trial period with the club. Despite the Mariners having so far not commented on such reports, Bolt’s agent Ricky Simms has confirmed the news, stating “I can confirm Usain has been offered a contract by Central Coast Mariners”.

Eight-time Olympic champion Bolt scored two goals on his first start for the Central Coast Mariners during a friendly fixture, however he missed out on a place in their squad for the opening game of the A-League season, a match which ended in a 1-1 draw against the Brisbane Roar. Bolt had recently turned down a contract from Maltese champions Valletta FC, having previously trained with the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Sundowns and Stromsgodset following his retirement from athletics. Bolt was offered odds of 18/1 by bookmaker Ladbrokes (odds by to sign for Manchester United back in February this year, the club in which the Jamaican supports, however appearances in the A-League now look far more likely.

It remains to be seen as to whether Bolt will accept the offer reportedly made by the Mariners, with some outlets reporting that the A-League side are looking for a cut-price deal due to their doubts over whether the former sprinter can cut it at such a level. Bolt has already brought a significant amount of attention to the Mariners, a side who finished bottom of the A-League standings last season, however Head Coach Mike Mulvey recently stated that he was not concerned about Bolt, focusing instead on the players available to him at the time.

Should Bolt accept the offer from the Mariners, he could even be in line for his professional debut on Saturday morning when they take on Melbourne City FC at the Central Coast Stadium, where the home side are the 3/1 outsiders for victory with bookmaker BoyleSports. Having won both the 100m and 200m sprint titles during his time, Bolt would certainly offer the Mariners something a little different, with a potential attacking partnership with former Aston Villa man Ross McCormack likely to excite fans.

Ronaldo Reaches 400 Goal Landmark Ahead of Old Trafford Return

Cristiano Ronaldo has broken all kinds of records over the years, however the Portuguese superstar has now become the first player to register 400 goals across Europe’s top five leagues. The Juventus man even beat rival Lionel Messi to the prize, with the Argentine magician currently at 389 for Barcelona. Ronaldo, who signed for the Old Lady from Real Madrid over the summer, scored Juve’s goal in a 1-1 home draw with Genoa over the weekend, taking his Serie A tally to five for the season.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid man first caught the attention of fans around Europe with his early displays for Sporting in his homeland, before securing a big money move to Old Trafford back in 2003. Under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson, Ronaldo would go on to score 84 times in the Premier League, lifting the top-flight trophy three times in the process, along with the UEFA Champions League in 2008. Ronaldo returns to Old Trafford this week, with Juventus taking on Manchester United in Europe’s premier club competition, where the Portuguese star is 4/1 with bookmaker William Hill to score the opening goal of the game.

Having long been linked with a move to Real Madrid, Ronaldo signed for the Spanish giants for a then world record fee in 2009, where he fired 311 La Liga goals for Los Blancos in just 292 appearances. Ronaldo would win a further four Champions League titles with Madrid, including three consecutive wins up until 2018, before the time was right to move onto pastures new. Juventus invested an estimated £88 in bringing Ronaldo to Turin, where the 33-year-old has recovered from a slow start to quickly become the main man in Serie A.

The comparisons between Ronaldo and Messi have long dominated the European game, however no matter which player you rate the highest, there is no denying the goalscoring ability of the Juventus man. Ronaldo beat Messi to recording 100 Champions League goals, whilst also reaching the 400-goal landmark before his great rival. Juventus have made an unbeaten start to their Serie A campaign, with a run of eight wins from nine matches leaving them four points clear of closest rivals Napoli. The Old Lady are the 1/4 favourites with William Hill to make it seven consecutive titles in Italy, with Ronaldo set to play a significant role.

Everton fan goes to prison for eight weeks

He attacked players of the opposing team, holding his little son in his arms: an English football fan was sentenced to eight weeks in prison on Friday for fighting in the stadium. In addition, the Everton supporter will no longer be allowed to watch a football match in the stands for the next six years. Everton banned him from the stadium for life.

The 30-year-old had pleaded guilty and declared himself ashamed of his behaviour. The Everton fan had become violent during a European League match between his club and Olympique Lyon in October. When players of both teams fought at the edge of the field, the family man beat the Lyon players with his right hand. He carried his three-year-old son on his left arm during this time. Video recordings of the attack landed on the net and spread to the social networks.

The police accused the fans involved in the fight of “selfish and idiotic behaviour”. Besides the 30-year-old, two other spectators had to answer in court. A 19-year-old man received a warning, the trial of the third supporter, who pleaded innocent, was postponed until June.

Football Betting Tips: Japan vs Senegal

Two of the opening match winners face off in Group H with both teams sure to be fully aware that a win here, would almost guarantee them a place in the last 16. Japan, helped by an early Colombian red card, showed real endeavour in their 2-1 win whilst Senegal provided a huge shock in their 2-1 win over Poland, meaning both sides will come into this one – full of confidence.

FIFA World Cup – Group H – Japan vs Senegal – Ekaterinburg Arena.

Sunday 24th June 2018

Kick-off: 16.00 GMT

  • Japan – Best Odds – 14/5 (Ladbrokes)
  • Senegal – Best Odds – 21/20 (Coral)
  • Draw – Best Odds – 11/5 (Betfred)

Japan enjoyed the perfect start to their World Cup campaign – beating Colombia 2-1 in an entertaining tie that has left them with a great chance of progressing from the group. A win over fellow opening day winners Senegal here would all but guarantee their place in the knockout stages – for the first time since 2010. Shinji Kagawa got the ball rolling against Colombia with his ice cool penalty and he will be hoping to add to his international tally of 31.

Senegal pulled of a remarkable win over Poland in their opening game and look to be well set to progress to the knockout stages. Their dynamic squad looks to have all the hallmarks of their infamous 2002 team that performed so admirably and they will be eager to progress with a win here. Sadio Mane captains the national side and the Liverpool man is always a threat in any game he plays and he’ll be looking to add to his goal record of 14 goals in 53 games.

Head to Head

Perhaps unsurprisingly due to geographical locations of these two teams, this is the first meeting between the sides in international football.

Odds and Predictions

With opening day wins under their belts, both sides will be keen to carry on their good form and will arrive full of confidence.

Both teams to score – YES – looks a very good bet at 21/20 with Coral.

Sadio Mane is always a threat for Senegal and will be looking to score his first World Cup goal here.

Sadio Mane to score anytime looks a really wise punt at 13/10 with BetBright. Have a look at this BetBright sports review.

Both sides profited on opponent mistakes in previous games and this one could be a cagey affair.

Under 2.5 goals in the game looks worth a gamble at 4/7 with Betway.

With a win under their belts for both sides, this could be a case of not losing between two well-matched teams.

The match to finish as a draw looks a super bet at 11/5 with Betfred.

 Score Prediction

Senegal 1 – 1 Japan – 11/2 with 888 Sport.

Top Betting Tip

This could be a very watchable game between two sides, who’ve already tasted success at this World Cup. The match to finish as a draw and both teams to score is an excellent punt at 4/1 with Bet Victor. More best betting sites uk here.

Football Betting Tips: Argentina vs Iceland

2014 World Cup finalists Argentina will be looking to go one better this time around but will have to be at their best to qualify from a tricky-looking draw in Group D. Iceland are their first opponents and after their heroics at Euro 2016 – where they famously beat England – few would bet against them rising to the occasion once again on the biggest stage of all.

FIFA World Cup – Group D – Argentina vs Iceland – Spartak Stadium, Moscow.

Saturday 16th June 2018

Kick-off: 14.00 GMT

Argentina – Best Odds – 3/10 (Ladbrokes)

Iceland – Best Odds – 10/1 (Bet Bright)

Draw – Best Odds – 18/5 (Betfred)

Having reached the final in 2014, the expectation to deliver once again sits with Argentina who have a squad littered with exceptional talent.

The 3 other teams in group D all pose threats but with their wealth of attacking options, Argentina should qualify with relative ease here.

Arguably one of the greatest players to have ever played the game, Lionel Messi is the main man for Argentina and he will want a goal to get his World Cup going – 64 international goals scored.

This is the first time Iceland have qualified for the World Cup – a remarkable achievement for a country with a population over just over 300,000 people.

Group D looks very tough for them but their experienced side ply their trade all over Europe and shouldn’t be too fazed by the potential challenges ahead.

Gylfi Sigurdsson is the talisman for Iceland and the Everton man will be looking to add to his international tally of 19 goals.

Head to Head

This is the first ever meeting between the sides and it should be a real David vs Goliath style-tie.

Odds and Predictions

Iceland will look to contain Argentina for as long as possible in what could be an attritional battle.

Both teams to score – NO – looks a fantastic bet at 2/5 with Betway.

Lionel Messi is arguably the best player in the world and how he would like to get his tournament up and running straight away.

Lionel Messi to score anytime is a very good punt at 4/5 with Bet Victor.

This could be a very cagey affair that could be decided by the odd goal or moment of brilliance.

Under 2.5 goals in the game looks a real possibility at 8/11 with Coral.

Iceland will make life very difficult for Argentina but with their squad depth they should have no issues here.

Argentina to win the match is an excellent bet at 3/10 with Ladbrokes.

 Score Prediction

Argentina 2 – 0 Iceland – 22/5 with 888 Sport.

 Top Betting Tip

Argentina are one of the favourites to lift the trophy and will need to get going here against a resolute Iceland side that may not be able to cope with Messi and co.

Argentina to win the match to nil is the value punt at 8/11 with Betfred.

Italian Serie A – Lazio vs Inter Milan

We could be in for a dramatic evening at the Stadio Olympico in Rome on Sunday night as Lazio host Inter Milan in a straight shoot-out for the final Champions League spot. Lazio currently sit in 4th place, three points ahead of Inter Milan and with a better goal difference, meaning that Inter Milan need to win by four clear goals on Sunday to jump ahead of them in the standings. Whatever happens, this is sure to be a thrilling, tense encounter between two of the greatest Italian sides.

LazioLazio are somewhat stumbling towards Champions League qualification, with the capital city club drawing each of their last two matches against Atalanta and Crotone. Lazio took an early lead in their last game against relegation threatened Crotone, before falling behind in the match 2-1. It took a late goal from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to rescue a point for Lazio and it cannot be overestimated how important that goal was. If Lazio would have lost the game, a victory for Inter on Sunday would have taken them ahead of Lazio, but as it stands, they now need a four goal swing. Serie A’s top scorer, Ciro Immobile is out injured for Lazio and the Italian striker will be a big miss for the side from Rome.

Inter Milan

Inter Milan suffered a hugely damaging loss last time out at home against a Sassuolo side with nothing left to play for. Inter turned in a poor performance in front of their own fans and it took a late goal from Rafinha to give them any hope of getting anything out of the game. Inter Milan did win their last away game 4-0 against Udinese, and a repeat of that score line on Sunday would see them leapfrog Lazio into 4th place. Mauro Icardi currently trails Immobile by a single goal in the race for the Golden Boot and he will be looking to take advantage of his rival’s injury on Sunday to move ahead of him.

Talking Points

  1. Inter Milan won this fixture 3-1 last season, but need to win by a four goal margin to overtake Lazio in the league standings.
  2. Lazio have conceded just 18 goals in 18 games at home this season, losing only four times.
  3. Inter Milan do have a solid away record though, losing just three times on the road this season.

This is a huge game for both of these sides and it is one that may be difficult to decide upon an approach for Lazio. They know that they just need to avoid defeat by four goals or more and they will qualify for the Champions League, therefore you would expect them to line up rather defensively. That is simply not the way this Lazio side play though and when you consider that they are the top scorers in the league as well as having the worst defensive record of any side in the top eight, we could be in for an exciting game. I think Inter Milan will win the game, but I don’t think they’ll be able to win by a large enough margin.

Betting Tips (Coral)

Lazio start this game as slight favourites at odds of 7/5, whilst an away win for Inter Milan is priced up at 7/4, with the draw available at 13/5. With Inter Milan needing goals, I think we can be sure that there will be plenty of goals in this one. Both teams to score looks like a sure thing at 1/2, whilst Inter Milan to win and BTTS at 10/3 could well be an excellent bet. I’m expecting Inter Milan to try and start fast in the game and so Over 2.5 Goals in the First Half at 5/1 could be a good long odds bet.

Inter Milan to Win and BTTS (YES) – 10/3 (Coral)

Title Celebrations Await in the Italian Capital

There are only two rounds of matches reaming in Serie A this season and the biggest game this weekend sees Roma host Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico. Juventus must lose their remaining 2 games 5-0 if they are to lose the Serie A title to Napoli and that’s very unlikely.  However, they will want to seal the deal in style with a good win over Roma.

The hosts have a target of their own and will want to win this match to secure their place in the top four.  With Inter Milan playing on Saturday, Roma will know what they need to do if they want to secure Champions League football next season.

Roma Form

Roma come into this match having defeated Cagliari 1-0 away from home last weekend and that result leaves them in control of third place.  A win in their final two games will see Roma secure third and they are in good form, having won their last 4 Serie A matches.

There have been wins over Genoa, SPAL, Chievo Verona and Cagliari.  Roma have lost just one of their last 10 league games and 2 of their last 14, meaning they are difficult to beat.  At home, Roma have won by 3 or more goals in 3 of their last 6 home Serie A games but results have been inconsistent.

Roma have won 4 and lost 4 of their last 8 home Serie A matches and while they have scored plenty of goals there has been just a single clean sheet in their 9 at the Stadio Olimpico.

Juventus Form

Juventus will be buzzing ahead of this game as they secured the Coppa Italia in mid-week with a fine 4-0 victory over AC Milan in the Stadio Olimpico.  With one trophy in the bag, Max Allegri will be keen to avoid any doubt and win Serie A in style by defeating Roma on their own turf.

Juventus have won 17 of their last 20 matches in Serie A and have lost just one of those games.  What looked like being a tricky season for the Old Lady has turned into another dominant campaign and Juventus are unbeaten in their last 12 away league games.

However, Juventus have not had things all their own way recently and they have been held to draws at SPAL and Crotone.  These results will give Roma some belief they can get something from the game.

Team News

Roma will be without the injured trio of Rick Karsdorp, Gregoire Defrel and Bruno Peres for this game plus central defender Kostas Manolas is rated as doubtful.  Juan Jesus is expected to step in for the Greek centre-back.

Juventus have Colombian winger Juan Cuadrado suspended so Stephan Lichtsteiner should come into the team at right-back.  Gonzalo Higuain will hope to return to the starting XI having started on the bench in the Coppa Italia final.

Top Betting Tips

Juventus have struggled in some of their recent away matches and may be feeling it a bit following the Coppa Italia final.  With that in mind and Roma’s need for points in pursuit of a top four place, we should see a close game and the draw is 2/1 at William Hill.

Roma have been scoring goals at home but failing to keep clean sheets and this should lead to an exciting game of football.  The draw and both teams to score is 17/5 with Ladbrokes.

Brazilian winger Douglas Costa has been in good form for Juventus recently and turned the game when he was introduced against Bologna.  Costa scored in the Coppa Italia final and against Inter Milan and can be backed at 16/5 with William Hill to score at any time.
